Imperial City- unable to attack

    I had this happen for heavy attacks and single target skills in overland combat. To fix, I had to log out and log back in.

    As for reporting it in a bug report, forgive me if I remain skeptical that this actually accomplishes anything. :neutral:

    These recent issues are different from the occasional positional desyncs that happen in the IC sewers especially around uneven floors with grates and water on the surfaces. The new issue is that enemy health bars disappear and they become unattackable. I encountered this in Summerset the other day: the health bars disappeared above a humanoid enemy NPC and a welwa (nothing had changed in the settings on my end), they got agrro'ed and attacked me, and I couldn't attack them at all. I run to reset them and noticed that the health bars were removed from other enemy NPCs in the area. I reloaded the UI but it didn't fix the issue, and it was only fixed when I relogged with my character. @ZOS_Kevin could you please let us know if the team is aware of this?

    I was plagued by this yesterday on XBox NA in Auridon. Sometimes weapon swap worked to fix it, sometimes it just fixed itself, and sometimes I had to relog. Gut says that the server is not authorizing the client to engage with the target, so no combat except for AoE and Companions/Pets.

    I submitted a ticket last week, and posted a video of it on X yesterday and @BethesdaSupport (likely a bot/AI) replied and told me to open a ticket.

    I have been farming Bedlam Veil for the last week and this happens almost every single time I enter the portal to go to the first boss fight. It happened probably 80% of the time that I entered and seemed to affect my friends far less.

    same, it happened twice in a row. I now use the tab target to make sure I can highlight the boss first. If you have the bug, you cannot from what I have experienced.

    I made a video just in case devs wanted it.

    You can see my X and RB button skills fail to light up when my crosshairs are on target. You can see no damage numbers appear when using light attacks. I have default sound settings (except music off) but some channels of sound are missing. I did an area attack to show the difference.

    Some facts to add context:

    * zone is Blackwood overland

    * area skills can hit

    * single target skills and light attacks pretend like there is no target

    * bug always accompanied by missing sound effects

    * looting corpses and resource nodes still works

    * triggered by and solved by using teleport shrine

    * this example is on Xbox, NA

    Just went in to get some skyshards on a new character and same thing. Unable to attack mobs that are attacking me. Really dumb bug honestly.

    For those who have experienced this issue, would you be able to provide a video of what you were doing in game in the moments leading up to it? As much footage as possible of the events preceding this issue would be extremely helpful, in addition to a list of the gear your characters were wearing, the skills they had equipped, Champion Point allotments, and any active addons.

    In every case, it triggers on load into a zone (but not necessarily from a different zone). Like teleporting from one shrine to another in Blackwood. Or popping up into Memorial district in Imperial City from Covenant Base.

    The problem is, in less busy areas, you will not notice right away until you approach an enemy. I think that is why folks in Imperial City notice it more: every square meter of Imp City is within range of an enemy.

    I think this is more going to be the answer.

    I have 11 toons, and it happens often on some and never on others. Next recreate, I will drop full details.

    I had this experience on Saturday when I started my stream. I got into combat with some mobs in IC and was not able to tab target or use any single target attacks. AOEs went through. The issue resolved itself when I went through a door to switch districts.

    My character was a sorc wearing Arkasis, Turning Tide on back bar, Bloodspawn and Vateshran Sword and Board front bar.

    Here's my Superstar loadout which should include Slotted Champ Points:

    Skills:
    Frontbar: powerslam, resolving vigor, mystic orb, Boundless Storm, hardened ward, and suppression field.
    Back Bar: streak, unstable wall, lightning flood, race against time, dispelling trample and suppression field.

    I remember having LUI Extended, CyrHud, Combat Metrics, pchat, and Votan's Minimap addons loaded at the time.

    I do have CP assigned, though. (Do not have details at this time)

    It was not unusual for this to happen every day, then it stopped happening every day. Now when it happens, i log out and resume knitting new socks. :smile:

    Right now, I have a toon that has logged in 3 times to Cyrodiil (Ravenloft) with the bug. The reason I know the bug is active is because my footsteps sound effects do not play right away. I have to do something (not sure what) that eventually triggers my footsteps sound effects to play.

    To prove the bug, I have to ride from North High Rock Gate to the motherwisp monster east-northeast of Fort Warden Lumbermill. Going thru Gate of Ni-Mohk does not trigger a load, so the bug remains active. However, doing something as simple as going into the alchemy station back at North High Rock Gate will trigger a load, which clears the bug.

    After 3 recreates, I logged out while still out in the field near Warden Lumbermill and when I logged back in the bug was not active. Sad face; no more experiments.

    @soelslaev : I've had this happen on two different characters (XB-NA, both level 50 + CP), neither of which use a bow. It happens so unpredictably for me that I doubt I can reproduce it after changing to use one though. Each time it's happened, it really just seems like the game thinks my character is located elsewhere with a completely different aim point. As noted by others, my companion or combat pet can still successfully attack, and an AoE will also hit, but that's it.

    I had this happen to me last night on PC EU in the Memorial District of the Imperial City.

    When I first entered via the ladder, my abilities worked fine. But after I killed my first Xivkyn for the daily quest, something happened to trigger the issue.

    I always like to mount up and ride around the central area putting Charged Auricular Geodes in the Skeletal Laborers, so I hopped on my mount after killing the first Xivkyn to go find another Xivkyn to kill. I could almost "feel" something happen when I mounted up and started to ride; it's difficult to describe, but something just felt "off" as I was riding. It may have happened at the end of my fight with the first Xivkyn, or while mounting up, or while riding. In any case, I rode a short distance to where another Xivkyn was located, and when I dismounted I could see that my targeted abilities weren't available.

    I was able to kill the second Xivkyn with area abilities, then mounted up and rode around the central area to see if I could interact with the Skeletal Laborers-- but, as expected, I could not get an interaction prompt for any of them.

    I decided to ride to an exit and was able to take it to one of the "safe" balconies in the Arena District. I was able to interact with, and loot, the satchel by the chair on the balcony, so I jumped down and took the nearby exit back to the Memorial District. (Don't ask me why I didn't just turn around on the balcony and go back through the door; for some reason it didn't occur to me.) After jumping down from the balcony in the Memorial District, I mounted up, rode to the central area, and was able to interact with the Skeletal Laborers to complete the daily quest.

    So "zoning" via a doorway from one district to an adjacent district corrected whatever the issue was, or maybe the issue had already corrected itself by the time I had ridden to the doorway. (I'm not sure whether I'd have even been able to interact with the doorway if the issue were still occurring.)

    The closest "normal" in-game situation I can think of to compare it to is how you're unable to interact with things if you've just been attacked, but if you can avoid being attacked for several seconds then you can interact with things again, such as being able to interact with a door so you can escape. When it was happening, it's almost as though I was still under attack from the first Xivkyn, or possibly from some other enemy that may have attacked me after I mounted up, and therefore I was unable to interact with anything due to being under attack.

    But it wasn't exactly like that, since whatever the issue was also prevented my targeted abilities from being available.
    I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

    I've done the 6 IC dailies today again. Before I ported to IC, everything was working fine.
    When I grabbed the last quest in the elvengarden district, you can see from above, that the NPCs are not targetable already (no health bar and no shiny red around the NPcs).

    To "fix" it, I had to enter another district and get back. All spells are working correctly now.

    My guess is, that it has anything to do with entering the disctrict from the ladders, where you have a longer loading screen. I've saw someone mention, that they had the bug in a dungeon, where they entered the encounter via the portal at the start. There you also have a short loadingscreen.

    In the video I hover over my gear, skills and active CPs. It's sadly all in german, but if you need a translation, I can do so. I have to google some names myself then :D

    (When I do the dailies again, I could try to enter everything naked, without gear, CPs and spells).

    If you need more context, drop me a letter, I can ask the streamer to cut the video and share gear/skills/etc.

    It is a very frequent bug for ppl teleporting from Cyro to IC and back while looking for battles - sometimes there is more fun in IC, sometimes in Cyro. It looks like it has very big chance to occure while porting to IC - I can observe it up to 10 times per stream and more. Changing district helps every time tho, and it is usually bugger right away, so you cant damage at all like on RealLoveBVB's clip, but sometimes you can kill a mob and then targeting become unresponsive (like on the clip above).

    @ZOS_stileanima do you know if this is related to the same type of bug where you can no longer pickpocket? In this case the NPC nameplate disappears and the pickpocket option is gone, but the Blade of Woe interact is still there. Just curious if that will be fixed when this goes live, regardless this is still good news.
