What is the difference between Bleed and Physical damage?

I apologize for what is probably a very simple question, but I've been doing some spell scribing stuff and every time I try to look up the answer I just get stuff about Hemmorahge, which I actually am... not sure what that is either or if or how it's related to Bleed damage?

I'm very confused and would appreciate some help. Thank you.

Bleed is a form of physical damage that can apply the hemorrhaging damage over time. Physical damage (as in things that say they do specifically physical damage) can apply sundered. The in-game help menu can help you more under "status effects".

Aha! Thank you, I did not realize Sundered was a thing either! (Or that the help menu had stuff like that. That will save me some time later, thanks!)

Damage in ESO is divided into two categories: Martial (physical) and Magical damage, which are reduced by Physical and Spell Resistance, respectively. Each category is formed of a number of different damage types: Physical, Bleed, Poison and Disease damage for martial, and Magic, Fire, Frost and Shock damage for magical. Oblivion Damage is "true" damage, AKA it ignores resistances.

Each damage type is associated with a respective Status Effect. Physical damage can apply the Sundered status effect, Bleed damage can apply Hemorrhaging, Poison damage can apply Poisoned, and Disease damage can apply Diseased. On the magical side, Fire damage can apply Burning, Frost damage damage can apply Chilled, Shock damage can apply Concussed and Magic damage can apply Overcharged. Status effects deal either instant or over time damage (and often have additional effects), with Hemorrhaging belonging to the latter category, and being unique in that it can stack up to 3 times.

Rather than start a new thread I'm going to ask here since I admit, I'm' a bit confused and the in-game help menu isn't... clarifying and googling is also not helping.

So a long long time ago, when I played last, Stamina and Magicka were linked to damage based on that type. My understanding is that this is different and now it goes off your higher resource? I think?

But that leads to this question: Do you have to go all in on one resource? Or can you say, go 50/50 Stam/Magicka and not lose damage? I have a character I want to use a combination of dual wield and magicka abilities on with the new subclassing and while I think I can manage it if I just go full Magicka... if it *is* possible to balance out my resources I'd love to do it for simplicity's sake.

But I don't want to unnecessarily weaken myself.

Sorry for all these questions - game's a lot different these days.

1 - yes, hybridization = you can use any damage type as stam or mag
2 - you do need to go all in on one resource for damage. Damage scales off your highest attribute, it's not cumulative. So, for instance, if you have 500 weapon damage and 200 spell damage, adding 50 spell damage is a waste because it won't do anything
no worries on questions! things do be changing...

Your damage scales off the higher of your magika/stamina or your weapon/spell damage.

So if your mag and stem are equal than your weapon and spell will then apply
