Multi/hyper threading rendering massive CPU spike

Just noticed tonight that ESO was using up to 50% or more of my CPU because multithreading rendering was on. I thought this was supposed to increase performance not make it worse. It was not like this yesterday. Anyway I turned it off and it went down to 29%.

I'd say that's to be expected. Multithreading means there are multiple threads running in parallel. This means your CPU can run some calculations in parallel as well. Therefore, it can be better utilized.

What does this mean for you and the game? You could see improved performace such as higher FPS, faster responses, etc. Of course, there's much more to it. Your GPU also plays a huge part.

It's usually not an issue to have even 100% CPU utilization. It just means you use it to full! But 100% can mean you are CPU bound - your CPU cannot process everything it needs to fast enough, and overall PC performance suffers. This is my current state at my parents house with an older CPU which runs at 100% when I play ESO. I often see stutterings.

So, having 50% is not an issue at all! After all when you play a game you want that game to run as smoothly as possible. So, unless you see some other degradations I wouldn't worry and turn the multithreaded renderring back on.

You can run some benchmarking software to see if it affects your game performance in a positive way (e.g., with nVidia Experience Alt + R pops up the GPU overlay).

I mean it has never been an issue. I've always had it on with this PC... but yesterday it was bad. When I turned it off I didn't really see any performance change in the game anyway.
