How is everyone liking subclassing

I don't want it. I'm used to the skills I have been playing for nine years, and I have two other characters to try out other classes. What's the point of having multiple characters now?

I accepted the "quest" just to move the giver along but now it is forcing me to ditch a skill line and add another to progress. If I abandon the quest, will that lady be standing at the city wayshrine forever with a marker on her head?

I know it's a radical idea, but, if people hate subclassing, then they could just, not, do it? Its not being forced on us.

i get your point but as some have said, you'll get raid leaders whisping you about skills, just like they did about sets when hybridization came round. i had many a raid leader whisp me, saying very succinctly 'can you run x set?' i dunno what'll happen with subclassing -- it hasn't happened yet, so i can't report it. but i can imagine it

you might say, 'well, leave that group, find another'. yeah, could do, but that can be a hassle. anyway, mmo's change and we have to change with them. i'm doing subclassing on one character, and that'll be my go-to for vet raids

You cant abandon the quest. You have to complete it, and then swap back the skills with the free skill respecc scroll she gives at completion if you want your primary skills on.

At some point without realizing it I picked up the subclassing quest.

A big disaster since you cannot abandon it. I had to go through the charade of surrendering a class and then buy it back and then had to respec.

Just to be clear to anyone who hasn't engaged in subclassing, this shouldn't happen. That is, when we swap skill lines, it only affects the skill lines we've swapped. We don't have to respec all skills, only for the new skill lines added.

However, there is a key bind to refund all skill points, so be careful!

So far I have only subclassed two characters of mine. For those characters it felt right, and I massively enjoy subclassing on them.

On some of the original classes I have perfected my builds so much over the years, that losing a skillline only makes me think about what I am losing. And that the new skillline will not fill that gap for what I am going to miss out on. Which then stops me from subclassing on those characters entirely. Which is funny, because I really like subclassing. Will have to do some theorycrafting with this.

Personally I think subclassing is a good feature for the game, but I do feel ZOS should have granted one more character slot with this feature. So that we can experiment with subclassing on an entirely new character. This way we can see what works and what does not work and try different combo's, without messing up an existing character.

Some things I would change/add to subclassing:
-Have the first skill in any subclassed skillline granted for free. (These skills are usually only selected to level the skillline with, and with subclassing that wastes two skillpoints.)
-Have the subclasses menu just be all 7 classes, not the magic type of light or arcane magic or whatever. Let us directly pick a class.
-This feature should have come with a new character slot, so we can experiment with subclassing without messing up existing characters.
-Make a townboard in all main towns with all non-main game features, so we can start their quests there: Subclassing, ToT, scribing, excavation, etc. (in a non intrusive way, kind of like the daily crafting board but without the questmarker)
-Grant us a subclass furniture/houseguest, so we can subclass in our homes. (similar to armory)

Other than that, subclassing itself is really straightforward and easy to get into/start doing.

PS: I was under the impression if we had a character with skillines leveled to 50, we would have those skilllines leveled to 50 for subclassing also. Found out we still have to level those skilllines. Don't really mind this, but this bit had me confused with all the preview information given.

Interesting question. I have an alt of every class already maxed out, and with armory station I have a stam or magversion of each. Of all of that, I regularly play only two classes because I either don't like playing the class or like Necromancer, ZOS ruined the class. Why would I subclass in a class I did not want to play in the first place?

The next problem is that subclass will be meta for PVE DPS. Great. I hate playing arcanist in general. Templar is OK, but not my favorite, and I hate the color clash from arcanist green to templar yellow to NB red. But now I will be expected to subclass arcanist and nb or templar no matter what for ideal DPS.

PVP I like it simply for more build options and I can avoid any rock paper scissors limitations of the original class designs.
