If the ESO game client is started while
Microsoft Process Explorer is running, the client will crash. This can happen while the client is loading and connecting to the server before reaching the character selection screen, or as much as two minutes after selecting a character and logging in. The crash throws up an Error window stating "Prohibited procexp64.exe", a long hexadecimal string I couldn't copy before the window vanished, and "process terminated." This crash will occur if Process Explorer is running at the time the 'Play' button is clicked on the launcher, even if the Process Explorer process is immediately terminated, before the game client loads to the character selection screen. After the crash, the launcher displays a "Game crash detected' window stating 'The latest game launch has failed. This can be caused by corrupted files. Repairing your game installation could fix this.'
It is not difficult to stop Process Explorer before starting the ESO client, but it is annoying to forget that it is running, only to have the client crash informing you that you left it running. And it is also annoying that the ESO client has a fundamental incompatibility with software distributed by Microsoft.
