Do you have the clanfear on both skill bars? If not try to make sure the one it's on is the one you have selected when you gain XP.
If you're completing quests on this character it's especially helpful to make sure it's on your active bar when you turn in a quest. I had one character using a bow and dual wield and I was surprised that the bow skills always levelled faster even though I didn't think I used it that much. Then I realised: I always switched back to bow at the end of a fight, so I almost always had it active when turning in quests and getting the XP.
Curse probably leveled faster because you were leveling the unmorphed one while clannfear is a morph.
I use Harvens Improved Skills Window addon, it allows me to view the level of XP and what the alternative morphs do when mousing over skills. If you want to see how much XP you need to reach the nextlevel (and are on PC) this type of addon could help. As others have said the second tier levels much slower than the starting tier.

I am in my declining years, 78 is not all that far away now and my memory is not all that good; SO I do not even recall what I did to be honest; evidently I morphed my imp thing into the Clannfear then?
I mentioned that I can now activate the flying thing and it seems to about as much as the Clannfear and I see other players running about with it. So should I go ahead and replace the Clannfear and see if it levels faster, or should I save the point and just keep muddling along?

Howdy,
Thank you for your insights.
I believe that Clannfear is the morph of Scamp (Daedric familiar?), and using the add-on that SolarRune gave me the heads-up about I was able to see that it was indeed leveling up, albeit slowly. However, given all y'alls advice I did move it up nicely and it is now level 2!
Alas, regarding the Matriarch and morphing:
"Once summoned, you can activate the twilight matriarch's special ability for 4590 Magicka, causing it to heal 2 friendly targets for 3600 and itself for 1799. The twilight matriarch remains until killed or unsummoned." I do not think the player is a "friendly target" is it? The other descriptions say "...heal you..." for example.
As indicated, I am pretty old and go back to the old Apple II days and all games were initially text, then modest graphics like the first Wizardy game, so I am pretty much locked into Solo Play / PvE. My son introduced me to WoW and then I discovered ESO, which I far prefer. I am still looking for a Guild that matches the old style of thinkingor perhaps old military vets.
I am also wondering if the restoration staff was the best choice for the second skill line, seeing as how I did not catch on to the Clannfear healing until late into the game as-it-were. If not, what would be? I can always go to a temple and redistribute those points into something else perhaps?
Again, thank you all for being so kind.
