Can someone explain the moon cycles?

So I am very curious about becoming a werewolf or vampire and I know the moon has be a certain way for each, like blood moon and new moon I think? I really don't know anything about this and I've asked in game with no luck. So when can I expect each of these to occur? Once a day, once a week? Is it planned, like every day at 7 or every monday? I really want to be a werewolf on my current guy and I ventured into the rift, but was told I couldn't do it yet. Thanks.

    New Moon = Vampires

    Full Moon = Werewolves.

The Moons are on a cycle. A full cycle is 8 Real Life days. You have about 1.5 Real Life days to find yourself bitten once a New Moon/Full Moon starts. After that you will have to wait another 8 days before getting another opportunity.

Alright, thank you. So how will I know when it really is a full moon and not just almost full? Or is it completely obvious?

The Moon Cycles are based on the tides. You can see the tides at the Riften Docks. The height of the water on the steps leading into the water will determine what moon cycle is next. If its 1 step high then its Blood Moon, All the way to the top and its Full Moon. You can check every day as soon as daylight hits.

This has been confirmed by multiple people who are already wolves and vamps. Its the easiest way to tell whats coming next. Also we have found Vamps and Weres can spawn inside Riften. We have had 2 people bitten out near the docks as well.

    Good luck and happy hunting.

Knifeintheribs just wait till the full moon. Probably today or tomorrow I think. Don't give anybody money.

Dont bother... People will kill the werewolves and vampires before you can be infected. Such an awesome community.

The last crescent of the moon was 16 hours ago. Come back now expecting to find a new moon and it is on the first moon crescent. Yet the last full moon lasted ages! It's just random and frustrating!

I dont agree. I checked riften docks, i dont see any steps leading into the water but i do see ramps, and the water does not change, at leat it didnt change from what it was at yesterday to what it is today... And im hearing a lot in forms that the moon cycle thing is rubbish, and that the spawns are just random...

This topic is 11 years old, from when the game just launched.

The way the moon cycles work, and finding NPC werewolves and vampires has changed a lot since then.

As far as I know the spawns no longer have anything to do with the phases of the moon, so it appears to be random but may be on a cycle which is just hard to determine.

The easiest way to become a werewolf or vampire is to ask another player to bite you. Either ask in your guild or go to Bangkorai, The Rift or Reaper's March (where the shrines are) and ask in zone chat.

If you specifically want to find an NPC you'll need to search around those maps.I think they do still only appear when it's night in the game. Importantly for vampires you're looking for Bloodfiends, not full vampires. (The werewolves which can infect you are just called werewolves.) The ones which are always there can't infect you, the ones which can spawn in pairs and often in unusual locations. It helps to get to know the map first so you can spot ones which are out of place.

Also you need to give them time to infect you, so don't kill them too quickly. The best way is just to stand and let them hit you until you're infected, then run off so other players can find them if they want to.

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in 2014. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.
